I woke up this morning, and I had no idea who I was or where I was.

Do you ever have one of those mornings? You’ve been sleeping so soundly (often thanks to the pleasantly sedating effects of NyQuil)—and that dream about the guy from that stupid reality TV show was so very realistic (especially when he turned into an alien and took you on his ship, which looked a lot like your parents’ house)—that you woke up wondering what was real. Perhaps you really were abducted by that reality TV freak, and he drugged you and returned you to your bed, where you wake up, uncertain who you are or where you are.

Some people who, like me, have those mornings leave themselves recorded messages—or tattoo themselves with important clues to their identity (you know, like in Memento). I, on the other hand, spend my life constantly in reach of my computer (and I’m deathly afraid of needles), so I have my web site. If I ever forget who I am, all I need to do is come here. I can click on the links and read my bio or check out a few of the things I’ve written or find the books I’m in or find the latest news about myself. I also subscribe to my mailing list, so I can be reminded every once in a while of who I am and what I’m doing.

It really comes in handy on those mornings like this morning.

I also figured it might help you—just in case you, too, have one of those mornings when you wake up and have no idea who I am.
